Equipment
Some people do care what equipment is used - at photojunks we think it's the photographer that counts. After all, it's the photographer who takes the photo, the equipment only being used as means to capture the intention of the photographer.

For those who are not put off by this: you'll find a brief overview of our equipment. Just to humour your curiosity.

Philosophy

As with everything in life, the experiences we sometimes have to endure are not always as pleasant and joyful as we would like. Our moods are strongly affected by the world around us, taking twists and turns that are not always for the best. In our daily routines, we are sometimes forced to take decisions that may or may not benefit ourselves or our surroundings. Some events may even have a fatalistic effect on our mental and physical well-being.

In today's fast moving world, we don’t always take the time we need to think things through, to figure out what’s important and what’s not. We’re drawn into the rapids by our responsibilities, peer pressure, and the demanding society around us. We are not given, or refuse to allow ourselves, enough time to recover from the human side of life we also have to deal with from time to time.

The tools we've all been taught to deal with those experiences is to express ourselves. Each and every one of us uses one or more of those tools in their own way. Some express themselves through music, others with words, some with their hands, and others with a camera. Photojunks.com combines all of these features.

Photographic senses

A photo in its rudimentary form, is a two dimensional representation of a scene. Of the five senses we have, only one is preserved in the image created by the camera. The others; sound, smell, feel, and taste, are omitted from the image, and left for the viewers’ perceptive imagination.

A sixth sense can be added more vividly with photography by utilising various photographic techniques, in order to depict a feel of motion, movement and time.

The sixth sense

Although time is considered the sixth sense by some, it has some significant differences with the other five senses:

  • Its perception is not triggered by a neurological reaction of the human body, but it’s an experience that can be learned, and forgotten.
  • Its presence can be more easily captured by various technological means than any of the other senses.

Even with a still camera, time can be easily caught.

Photojunks.com

Photojunks.com sketches various situations, scenes and stories, twisting around its meaning by using various techniques of deception, illusion and imagery. We create a caricatural narrative of the world around us, sketching the dark picture of the mastodon we’ve turned our world into.

Photojunks.com  is a creative outcry; showing an unusual - sometimes dark - personal expression through imagery, combined with story-telling, and emphasised with music.

Photojunks.com is a 36clicks creative initiative, aiming to take the next step in professional photography. Photojunks.com is about the quest to combine a narrative type of photography with atmosphere, moods, emotions and sounds.

Photographic regeneration

From the five true senses we possess, four are rendered useless when taking a still image of a scene. By means of photographic and post-processing techniques, the feel of a setting can be regenerated, modified, or altered. The hues, contrasts, and saturation can make a single image look gloomy, vivid, dull or cheerful. Changing these parameters can alter the experience you feel when taking in a photo.

The photos on this site have all been post-processed and optimized for screen resolution. All photos were treated in Photoshop, but only with tools and processes that have their equivalent in traditional dark room methods.

Using these tools, the photos on this site have been regenerated to match the feeling, mood and atmosphere, that I wanted to create when I set out to shoot the series. The music accompanying the photos has been chosen to complete the experience

Multimedia

The technological realism we’ve created in the recent years, allow us to experience a virtual life that’s almost as realistic as the world around us. Yet, three of the basic senses are as of yet very difficult, if not impossible, to recreate in a virtual environment: the sense of smell, taste and – to a certain extent, tactile feel. Using various subtleties in combining multimedia techniques, photojunks.com recreates and regenerates that feel through sketching an illusion, by using various internet media combinations. That illusion is based on the combination with what you see on your screen, what you hear through your head set, and how the information is presented on your screen.
